If you're loading or unloading you can stop for a short while but more than likely you will be blocking the very narrow streets so forget any possibility of leaving your car abandoned for any period of time. There are some parking spaces but these are all private and for permanent residents only. Be warned that Wheel clamps are in use in some places.
If you are a day tripper then your best bet is to leave your car in the Public Car Park at the top of the hill by the Old Station don't even think of taking your car down into the old town as you will only have to bring it back up again. There are 100 plus spaces here for cars and coaches. Charges vary from £2.00 for 1 hour to £6.00 for 24 hours all year round! One advantage is that if you do buy a long stay ticket you will find it is also valid for the other car parks in the Scarborough Borough area including those at Whitby.

If you are staying for a longer period in one of the holiday cottages, guest houses or hotels then you could alternatively book a place for your car at Glen Vale, telephone 01947 840590. Here you can reserve a space for £6.00 per day or £40.00 per week and it's yours for the week and monitored by CCTV. This is a very good idea as you can go out knowing that when you return you have somewhere to put your car. It is ESSENTIAL to book if you wish to use this facility. Glen Vale is a private, family run business.
