Staithes harbour in the 1940's

Staithes harbour in the 1940's

An excellent record of Cow Bar Nab taken in the 1940's. Note that there are no harbour defences on Cow Bar Lane or at the Nab

Staithes Harbour today

There are still one or two fishing boats operating from the harbour which since the picture was taken above now has two large breakwaters, see map.

Some of the boats are available for day charter for sea angling the rest are occupied with lobster fishing. Follow this link for more information about past and present fishing from Staithes.

Each year in August the harbour plays host to the Staithes and Runswick Lifeboat weekend

Staithes harbour is managed by a Board of Commissioners constituted by Order of Parliament in 1932. The order was amended in 1993 to allow Hinderwell Parish Council to appoint one member onto the Staithes Harbour Commissioners.
